AN AFTERTHOUGHT FOR THE MOST UNDERRATED OLD MASTER POTTER AND FILIAL SON, HUI YI GONG…………………

AN AFTERTHOUGHT FOR THE MOST UNDERRATED OLD MASTER POTTER AND FILIAL SON, HUI YI GONG…………………………………………

A Zisha Hu friend and follower of Ren Fu Collection’s postings, messaged us to tell us that there is a Pot in Mai Foundation that was made by Hui Yi Gong and look exactly like Ren Fu Collection’s Pot No:387: the legendary Hui Meng Chen Small Meng Chen Zhuni Pot.( see picture of Mai Foundation Hui Yi Gong Pot and Ren Fu Collection’s Pot No:387).

Yes, we are not surprised as we have theorized before that there may be more undiscovered similar shapes Meng Chen-Yi Gong out there in the market and yes, thank you for informing us because that Mai Foundation Hui Yi Gong Pot has further confirmed what we have been saying was the truth even though without that Mai Foundation Hui Yi Gong Pot, Ren Fu Collection has enough archaeological proofs to support our claim. Now you all can see and understand very clearly if you look at Ren Fu Collection’s Yongzheng Hui Yi Gong High Lantern-shaped Pot No:548 and the Victoria and Albert Museum Tianqi 7th year reign Hui Meng Chen High Lantern-shaped Pot and now plus the above-mentioned Hui Yi Gong Low Lantern-shaped Pot belonging to Mai Foundation and Ren Fu Collection’s Hui Meng Chen’s Low Lantern-shaped Pot No:387, and many other similar shapes pair of Hui Meng Chen-Hui Yi Gong Zhuni Pots in Ren Fu Collection’s archaeological trove, we have no doubt made a distinct discovery about the relationship between Hui Yi Gong and Hui Meng Chen:  Yes, Ladies and Gentlmen, Ren Fu Collection’s Hui Yi Gong Pot No:548 shows that Hui Yi Gong made a similar-shaped Pot in Yongzheng to Hui Meng Chen’s early Pot , the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Hui Meng Chen Tianqi 7th year reign High Lantern-shaped Zisha Pot and now not surprisingly we found Hui Yi Gong in Yongzheng also made a similar shape to Ren Fu Collection’s Hui Meng Chen’s late Pot, the legendary Small Meng Chen Zhuni Pot No:387. And there are more similar shape Hui Meng Chen-Hui Yi Gong Pots in Ren Fu Collection’s archaeological trove of excavated Meng Chen and Yi Gong Pots. In fact we also discovered Hui Meng Chen and Hui Yi Gong were specialists in Lantern-shaped Pots whether high lantern, medium lantern or low lantern shaped Pots as found in the hundred of Lantern-shaped Pots with Meng Chen and Yi Gong’s names without including those Meng Chen Santoh Zhuni Pots with Lantern shapes.( even Siting shape and Pan-Hu shape Pots have Meng Chen and Yi Gong’s names on them)

It is hard to believe Hui Yi Gong was a loyal student with the same surname as Hui Meng Chen and without the slightest streak of rebelliousness or individualism in him but to do exactly what his master or teacher did unless of course Hui Yi Gong was more than a student to Hui Meng Chen, his teacher? And in fact based on the excavated Hui Yi Gong Pots in Ren Fu Collection and unearthed Yi Gong Pots in the market, Hui Yi Gong did possess Old Master’s skill even though most of his works replicated Hui Meng Chen’s works which mostly indicated he chose to live under his teacher’s shadow which, in turn, begs this question: which student in their right mind would be happy to live under his teacher’s shadow unless the teacher was also his father because all students always tried to outdo their teachers whenever they can. Yes, we in Ren Fu Collection have such a big archaeological trove that we could penetrate into the deep mystery of not just Hui Meng Chen’s mind and philosophy but the mystery of his relationship to Hui Yi Gong. And what’s more Ren Fu Collection’s huge archaeological trove of Daoguang, Jiaqing and Late Qian Long similar shape Meng Chen and Yi Gong Zhuni Pots coincided with the mass production of almost all Meng Chen Zhuni Pots with the occasional Yi Gong Zhuni Pots with similar shapes ( and no other Old Potters).

Ladies and Gentlemen, there is no filial student in this world, new and old, but there was/is only a filial son and with the perfect father-son timeline proofs of Hui Meng Chen and Hui Yi Gong in Ren Fu Collection’s huge archaeological  trove( see timeline chart of Hui Meng Chen-Hui Yi Gong in previous posting) nothing can shake this conclusion that Hui Yi Gong was the son of the greatest and most popular Old Master Potter of all times, Hui Meng Chen.

The similar shape Yongzheng Hui Yi Gong Low Lantern-shaped Pot in Mai Foundation only added more proofs that Hui Meng Chen’s (or his father’s) small Zhuni Pot which Ren Fu Collection excavated from a Late Chongzhen/Shunzhi grave belonging to a Fujian in the Nanyang, was indeed the legendary Small Meng Chen Zhuni Pot the Chinese tea culture world has been talking about until now but did not have any archaeogical proof. And just like the Ren Fu Collection’s similar shape Yongzheng Hui Yi Gong High Lantern-shaped Pot No:548 proved the Tianqi 7th year reign Hui Meng Chen High Lantern-shaped Pot in the Victoria and Albert museum, London, was Hui Meng Chen’s early work.

We end this discourse on Hui Yi Gong by showing you pictures of Pot No: 128 where Chen Ming Yuan, an Old Master Potter, showed his respect to Hui Yi Gong and possibly his equal, and Pan-Hu, Pot No:683, showing his respect to Hui Meng Chen with a Song Dynasty poem which reflected Hui Meng Chen’s character.

P/S.. To leave no doubt for the critics or detractors, we will insist on DNA testing of 1) Zheng Cheng Xu’s bones, the original owner of Pot No:248 to determine if he was the descendant of Zheng Cheng Gong even though we know he was Fujian from the tombstone epitaph and 2) Tea leaves found in many Early Qing graves/tombs to determine whether the tea leaves were Wuyi or from other regions to bring to a closure the rivalry between Fujian and Chao Zhou scholars to the claim of who invented Gong Fu Tea.

AMAZING DISCOVERY OF MOBILE GONG FU TEA BY REN FU COLLECTION…………………

We intentionally saved and kept this archaeological discovery separate for another topic towards the end because this discovery has more to do with Gong Fu Tea and how it was practiced in different ways in Pre-Daoguang times, than it has to do with the discoveries of Hui Meng Chen, the legendary Small Meng Chen Zhuni Pot and the birth of Gong Fu Tea.

Most people including scholars( but not historians) failed to take the backdrop of Chinese tea culture during the Transition Period into serious consideration. The backdrop of NanMing wars and ensuing fear and turmoil played a big part in determining the mode of tea drinking especially in Fujian the last bastion of NanMing and center of pioneering Gong Fu Tea. Vigorous study and research on Chinese tea culture of the Transition Period vis-a-vis Jingdezhen, Yixing and Wuyi tea production must take into account the effects of the NanMing wars and the resultant turmoil, fear and the magnified problem of everyday life which in tea making and tea drinking  faced a conundrum of time restraint and fear compounded by the desire to make the best quality in the process which in wartime situations where time is of the essence.(= must do things as quickly as possible)

Luckily for study and research, we in Ren Fu Collection has what scholars and PHD researchers wanted: archaeological proofs how Chinese tea culture progressed in the most basic ways of everyday life. Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, we have discovered in Ren Fu Collection’s huge archaeological trove, among many, many other things, two alternative modes of tea drinking in Pre-Daoguang times: one is a mobile Gong Fu Tea and the other is a home-made Gong Fu Tea.(in modern comparison imagine the bulky home land-line telephone and the small mobile phone). Yes, in Ren Fu Collection’s huge archaeological trove, we have found real life burners that had been used we classified as medium-sized burners(see pictures of used medium-sized burners and burners with charcoals) for mobile Gong Fu Tea and big burners used for making tea at home.(compare that to the huge cauldron on huge burner or stove in tea houses).

GONG FU TEA AND THE DRAGON OF TEAPOTS, THE SMALL MENG CHEN ZHUNI HU, HAVE RISEN FROM THE ASHES…………………………………

In a Summary of Proposal, submitted by world renowned scholar Professor Dr.Jean DeBernardi, who was seeking further funding for her research on the revival of tea culture and tea arts in contemporary China, said  China is embarking on a global-wide soft power campaign to spread Chinese tea culture and tea arts to the world through commerce, education, museum exhibits, invented rituals, and the global network of Confucius Institutes.(Professor Dr. Jean DeBernardi has previously been funded by Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, University of Alberta, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation and others)  In fact in a quest to improve its image abroad, more than 300 Confucius Institutes have been opened to make its cultural achievements known abroad. But in Chinese tea culture, so far the only cultural achievement made was in 2011 when UNESCO added the craftsmanship of making Chinese oolong tea to its intangible World Cultural Heritage which is the Wuyi Dahong Pao oolong tea and in the UNESCO website now displays an eight minutes documentary that proclaims oolong tea to be the epitome of Chinese tea culture, boasting that its quality is “the best the world had to offer”. But why did she mentioned “invented rituals” in China’s promotion of tea culture among the others which are commerce, education, museum exhibits and the global network of Confucius Institutes? Now what she said later in her research may explain why: Tea rituals were recent inventions like for example the mythic history of Dahong Pao associates this tea with the Tianxin Zen Temple and considered it Zen Buddhist tea. Although Japanese Buddhists transmitted this form of Buddhism from China to Japan, in China comparable tea ceremonies appear to be recent inventions influenced by contact with Japan. And individuals associated with the Lu Yu Tea Institute in Taipei, Taiwan, which is associated with the Ten Ren tea company , created one of the most popular of these modern invented rituals. There are a lot more on what was written about Chinese tea culture in which the best and most important is its tea ritual or ceremony but sadly there is none except for tea rituals borrowed from Japan and invented by Taiwanese who have nothing to do with China’s greatest tea ritual or ceremony or even Cha Dao whatever you want to call GONG FU TEA, the greatest tea culture in the world and still is, if only the panel of international scholars or PHD researchers have the archaeological proofs. And it makes us Ren Fu Collection so sad when we read this research report by a renowned European scholar who was paid by Tian Fu College, Zhangzhou, Ten Ren Tea company Taiwan and others to write “nothing” about the great Chinese tea culture because the real and greatest tea culture in the world, Gong Fu Tea, was missing and in its place are borrowed Japanese tea ritual and recent Taiwanese invented tea rituals. Yes, where is Gong Fu Tea, the great tea culture every Chinese in Pre-Daoguang times idolized, loved and practiced….and where are the Gong Fu tea wares which not only the Pre-Daoguang Chinese treasured but which the European Emperor Augustus the Strong craved for and  also sparked off a Chinoiserie craze in Europe during Qian Long’s reign and most of all where is the Dragon of teapots, the legendary Small Meng Chen Zhuni Pot that even the Dragon Emperor Qian Long approved and cherished by giving His Royal Consent to the production of the commemoration Meng Chen Qian Long 8th year reign Zhuni Pots and the Meng Chen Qian Long 13rd year reign Zhuni Pots. Surely such momentous events in Chinese tea culture history cannot just disappear from the surface of the Earth which will be a great loss to UNESCO the world body representing the intangible world cultural heritage.

Yes, we have heard about the mythical Emperor Shennong who discovered tea, and yes, we have heard about Lu Yu, the tea sage, who wrote the “Classic of Tea” a thousand times but where is Gong Fu Tea, the greatest tea culture in the world which the Chinese are always talking about but have no proofs, documented or archaeological. And UNESCO cannot put Gong Fu Tea in its List of Intangible World Cultural Heritage without any proofs. Yes, no documented or archaeological proofs. Why? Because the only great archaeological site in ZhangPuxian County every cultural relics pertaining to Early Qing Gong Fu Tea especially Early Kangxi Gong Fu Tea, have been plundered, looted and destroyed by Fujian tomb raiders hired by Taiwanese bosses especially the notorious Li Brothers. Yes, there was never a greater act of destruction of China National treasures since the sacking, burning, plundering and looting of the Summer Palace as encapsulated in the tomb raiders’ policy of “ Grab and Smash” where only the Zisha Pots and good porcelains were taken and the rest thrown away.( including the other precious Gong Fu tea wares and other cultural relics). And apart from that, we know there were two wars which posed an existential threat to Gong Fu Tea, that were the NanMing wars and the Opium wars. It is a great sacrilege and a great shame to China who had the greatest tea culture of all times, namely Gong Fu Tea, snatched away from it and now has to kowtow and borrow from the Japanese and Taiwanese, in order to have a “contemporary Chinese tea culture”……a very sad day for China!

Or is it?

No, definitely not, we are proud Chinese and have our own tea culture, in fact the greatest in the world, and we do not have to borrow from the Japanese or like in the words of Professor Jean DeBernardi, borrowed from the Taiwanese’s recent inventions or invented rituals that did not exist in the real Early Qing Gong Fu Tea.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we Ren Fu Collection, on behalf of Pre-Daoguang Chinese tea culture and the intangible world cultural heritage, shall help put Gong Fu Tea in UNESCO list of Intangible World Cultural Heritage.( it will take some time because PHD scholars in the top study and research world still do not know Ren Fu Collection’s huge archaeological trove existed)

P/s.For the whole Dr. Jean DeBernardi story please refer to https://www.academia.edu/38462250/Dr. Jean DeBernardi IG

Ren Fu Collection is considering setting up a joint working committee with a very famous Wuyi tea company with the aim of creating the old tea art form called Gong Fu Tea based on truth and archaeological material, facts and discoveries. And separately, either in Jakarta or Kuala Lumpurr, depending on circumstances like resurgence of deadly Covet+19 disease, we are toying with the idea of opening a Gong Fu tea art and Cha Dao with a small Gong Fu tea wares museum attached?

A DOCUMENTARY FILM ABOUT HUI MENG CHEN! THE SMALL MENG CHEN ZHUNI POT AND GONG FU TEA…………………………………………

Tan Du, the famous composer who composed film scores for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon(2000), and Hero(2002) wrote an opera titled: Tea: A Mirror of the Soul. His opera was performed in Japan, the United States, the Netherlands and other countries.Professor Wang Xu Feng wrote and won the Mao Dun Literature Prize in 2000 for her book, Trilogies of Teamen. In 2011 she wrote a play about Lu Yu and worked with Hanban to develop a tea culture for the Confucius Institutes. Zhang Yi Mou scripted and choreographed a nightly open-air performance at Wuyi Mountain called Impression Dahong Pao which is about Wuyi Mountains most famous variety of oolong tea. It is a fact that people would be surprised to learn that the only recognition of Chinese tea culture by UNESCO is Daohong Pao as an Intangible World Heritage and or that a gold container filled with rare Dahong Pao had been deposited in China’s National Museum. And of course there was a film made about Gu Zing Zhou.

And yes, we know what you are going to say: what about a film or documentary about Hui Meng Chen, the Small Meng Chen Zhuni Pot and Gong Fu Tea based on Ren Fu Collection’s huge archaeological trove of Gong Fu tea wares and Meng Chen Zhuni Pots? Yes, we believe a documentary is inevitable and maybe a movie about the greatest Potter of all times who inspired a renaissance in Chinese tea culture, namely, Gong Fu Tea.

We also now know from Ren Fu Collection’s huge archaeological trove that in Early Qing, starting from Kangxi reign and ending in Qian Long, Gong Fu Tea was the epitome of China’s greatest soft power.

In the history of Yixing teapots and Chinese tea culture, no potter had exerted so profound an influence as Hui Meng Chen. If Shi DaBin influenced Late Ming Zisha potting, then Hui Meng Chen influenced Zhuni Potting and Chinese tea culture in Early Qing. In fact, no Potter in the world, contemporary or old, has exerted such colossal influence as proven by the ubiquitous sea-salvaged Meng Chen Zisha Pots, the unearthed Meng Chen Yixing teapots and excavated Meng Chen Zhuni Pots with archaeological records found in Ren Fu Collection.

THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL DISCOVERIES OF THE REVOLUTIONARY SMALL MENG CHEN ZHUNI POT AND GONG FU TEA WILL NOT ONLY HELP PUT GONG FU TEA ON UNESCO’S LIST OF INTANGIBLE WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE BUT HELP TO PROTECT THE LEGENDARY SMALL MENG CHEN ZHUNI POT, GONG FU TEA AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL, SAVE OLD ZISHA HUS……………………………………………..

Old Bad News: In 2011 when we were doing a fact-finding tour of Taiwan, the place with the biggest store of unearthed Pots, we met the most well-known Taiwanese scholar Huang Qian Liang whom we were told write a lot, a lot of books about Old Zisha Pots, in fact a prolific writer who used archaeological excavations to ‘convince’ his readers that all the Zisha Pots in his book are genuine Old Pots like the archaeologically excavated Zisha Pots he borrowed from authentic sources like state-museums in mainland China. But the most shocking thing was what Huang Qian Liang later said to Tony Ren when Tony Ren asked him if he was interested in a lot of archaeological material, data and discoveries belonging to Ren Fu Collection for his books, shocked not only Tony Ren but the learning world: I( Huang Qian Liang) am not interested in your archaeological material, data or discoveries, I am only interested in the Pots you want to sell?

Of course, we also found out later that the books he was writing are “Conversion Books” whereby he used archaeologically excavated Pots and other people’s genuine Old Pots to convert the Fake Pots in his books to genuine Old Pots.( we now know the notorious Taiwanese organized fraudster Peng Qing Fu was behind most of Huang Qian Liang’s Fake Pots)

Recent Bad News: We have been told quite a while ago that Liu Chuan Sin has appointed himself an overnight Chen Ming Yuan historian and became a devoted researcher of Chen Ming Yuan’s works. And we now know, Liu Chuan Sin became a Chen Ming Yuan researcher in order to convince people he is a true scholar and deal only in genuine Chen Ming Yuan Pots, but of course we know it’s not true why he took such great interest and suddenly became a ‘PHD’ researcher into Chen Ming Yuan’s works. The real reason is that there are a lot, a lot of big money waiting to be made from good Fake Chen Ming Yuan Pots in the market. Like when Liu Chuan Sin first started dealing in fake Rolex watches and then graduated to selling fake Zhang Da Qian’s paintings by pretending to learn painting from a master. Of course everyone knows this old news of Liu Chuan Sin dealing in fake Zhang DaQian’s paintings.

Latest Bad News: Talking about organized fraudsters, sometime the person selling Fake Zisha Pots is the victim of fraud and not the culprit . Take for example the latest hot gossips on-line, which we were informed, that Ma Wei Du is dealing in Fake Zisha Pots which he did not even know are Fake Pots because Mai Wei Du has been taught by organized fraudsters who have penetrated legitimate institutions museums, auction houses and now even victimized Ma Wei Du an innocent learner who is risking damage to his reputation in so doing. Nevertheless, the shocking news notwithstanding, it was the poignant and profound words of a Chinese Zisha Hu netizen in that on-line discourse that alarmingly sums up everything: “ If such an influential and famous Arts personality like Ma Wei Du can fall victim to organized frauds and ‘joined’ them in dealing in Fake Pots, then what hope has Old Zisha Hu got. Old Zisha Hu is finished, doomed to destruction and its days are numbered unless a very strong and trusted voice can fight this cancer.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, the stakes are too high now that only “people power” can save Old Zisha Hus because you cannot depend on the Taiwanese who have the most unearthed Pots because almost all of them deal in Fake Zisha Pots, almost all of Taiwanese used their unearthed Pots to make fake copies to deceive people especially mainland Chinese, almost all of the Zisha Hus books written by Taiwanese contain Fake Pots we called “conversion books”, and we cannot depend on the famous scholars like Huang Qian Liang who does research for the Palace Museum of Taiwan and who should be honest, responsible and truthful but instead abuse his position to cheat,  deceive and defraud people who trusted him and now we cannot depend on Ma Wei Du who is a honest, respectable and honorable famous Arts T.V. personality because he is influenced and taught by organized fraudsters who have infiltrated institutions like auction houses and museums.

And not just the thousands of organized and small-time fraudsters who are destroying Old Zisha Hus with their Fake Pots and fake facts because now Fake Zisha Pots and fake chajins are destroying the real Gong Fu Tea by using inferior and toxic Fake Zisha Pots and cooking up fake tea rituals to destroy the real Gong Fu Tea.

Do not fear these thousands of organized and small-time fraudsters because there are many, many times more good, honest people in the world. What we need to do are to stand up to them because that’s the only way to save Old Zisha Hus and Gong Fu Tea.

And we will tell you how we, the good people of the world, are going to do to save Old Zisha Hus and Gong Fu Tea?

  • You good people go out and tell anybody and everybody about Ren Fu Collection battle to fight thousands of fraudsters to save Old Zisha Hus and Gong Fu Tea.
  • You good people go out and search for Fake Zisha Pots and inform us by giving the pictures of the Fake Zisha Pots and the people who own the Fake Pots so that we can put the Fake Zisha Pots in Ren Fu Collection’s Black-List of Fake Pots which will become a database for potential buyers to search to make sure any Pot/s they are buying is/are genuine Old. We will create or open a “Donation Box” for Fake Pots informers and any information and informant will be guarded with strict confidentiality.
  • You good people of the world will sign up on Ren Fu Collection’s Petition to Ask Palace Museum of Taiwan to Replace Huang Qian Liang .(using org)
  • Failing that, if it ever happens, we will eventually start a Petition to Appeal to the Chinese top leaders to help save Old Zisha Hus and Gong Fu Tea, China’s greatest tea culture from these existential threats.
  • On our part, we will inform the universities professors and museum and PHD researchers by sending Ren Fu Collection’s book, “Saving Old Purple-Sand Clay Teapots”, accompanied by a letter from the Malaysian Ambassador to the United States Dato Azmil Zabidi, a letter from Tony Ren and 28 pages of archaeological discoveries of Hui Meng Chen, the Small Meng Chen Zhuni Pot and Gong Fu Tea, with emphasis on the existential threat posed by organized frauds and Fake Zisha Pots.(note: the Ambassador’s letter would appeal to accredited professors for help to save Old Zisha Hus)
  • Two most powerful and most influential international newspapers will be informed: the Financial Times whose motto “Without Fear or Without Favour” and The New York Times whose previous article in 2005, “ Forging an Art Market in China” will be followed up with our “Saving Old Yixing Teapots and Gong Fu Tea” when we send our book to them with the Malaysian Ambassador’s letter and Tony Ren’s letter.

P/s…We are hoping to change Ren Fu Collection’s Black-List of Fake Zisha Pots to another name: The People’s Black-List of Fake Zisha Hus. And we are working out a way to reward good people who inform us on organized fraudsters and Fake Zisha Pots by rewarding them with our e-book or giving them invitation cards to Ren Fu Collection’s exclusive exhibition where they can rub shoulders with famous historians, professors, PHD researchers of universities, Ambassadors of foreign countries, etc..

(使用change.org)
